Island Bay is a small coastal village on the scenic South Coast of Wellington. In the early 1900s
it was home to many migrant fishermen from Italy and the Shetland Islands. A small commercial fishing fleet still operates from Island Bay, venturing into Cook's Strait daily to catch lobster, groper and other species for local and international markets.
